Understanding Applications

00:14.000 --> 00:16.000
If you woke up this morning

00:16.000 --> 00:19.000
thanks to the alarm on your smartphone

00:19.000 --> 00:23.000
or if you like watching videos or playing games on your tablet

00:23.000 --> 00:26.000
you're using applications

00:26.000 --> 00:28.000
also known as apps

00:28.000 --> 00:33.000
an app is a software program that lets you do things for lack of a better work

00:33.000 --> 00:39.000
you'll find apps on all of your devices including smartphones, tablets and computers

00:39.000 --> 00:42.000
some apps help you complete tasks

00:42.000 --> 00:45.000
while others are just for fun

00:45.000 --> 00:48.000
here's some examples of ways you can use apps

00:48.000 --> 00:53.000
mobile apps are apps that run on your smartphone or tablet

00:53.000 --> 00:56.000
they can make many things in life more convenient for instance

00:56.000 --> 00:59.000
if you're looking for a place to buy coffee

00:59.000 --> 01:02.000
an app like Google Maps can determine your current location

01:02.000 --> 01:05.000
and then recommend nearby coffee shops

01:05.000 --> 01:07.000
apps are in just for mobile devices though

01:07.000 --> 01:12.000
the programs and applications on your computer can also be considered apps

01:12.000 --> 01:19.000
if you've ever used Microsoft Word to create a document or a web browser to visit a website or check your email

01:19.000 --> 01:21.000
guess what?

01:21.000 --> 01:23.000
you've used an app

01:23.000 --> 01:29.000
some apps come already installed but you can easily download or buy more online

01:29.000 --> 01:34.000
apps are about communication, productivity, entertainment and more

01:34.000 --> 01:36.000
with so many possibilities

01:36.000 --> 01:41.000
you're sure to find several apps that are perfect for the things you do
