WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:21.800
Today, we will take you through the steps of making your sprite move left and right.

00:21.800 --> 00:25.320
This exercise is divided into two three videos.

00:25.320 --> 00:27.120
Let's begin with video one.

00:27.520 --> 00:32.120
First, you'll want to start your project by adding your sprite in a backdrop.

00:32.120 --> 00:37.120
For help with this step, watch the creating a sprite and backdrop videos.

00:37.120 --> 00:41.920
Once you've added your sprite, make sure you clicked on it here in the sprites pane.

00:41.920 --> 00:44.420
Now it's ready to receive code.

00:44.420 --> 00:48.220
Let's begin by setting the starting position of our sprite.

00:48.220 --> 00:53.420
But first, I want you to watch the values of the X and Y coordinates here in the sprites pane,

00:53.420 --> 00:56.020
as I move the car around the stage.

00:56.020 --> 01:00.920
When I move the car to the right, the value of X gets bigger each time.

01:00.920 --> 01:05.520
As I move the car to the left, the value of X gets smaller and smaller each time,

01:05.520 --> 01:08.520
and eventually goes into negative numbers.

01:08.520 --> 01:14.520
As I move the car upwards, the value of the Y coordinate gets bigger and bigger each time.

01:14.520 --> 01:21.020
And as I move the car down, the value of Y gets smaller, and then it eventually goes into negative numbers.

01:21.020 --> 01:28.020
These numbers are showing you the location of your sprite on the X and Y axis of a grid that's behind the stage.

01:28.020 --> 01:33.020
The X coordinate values show the horizontal location of your sprite on the grid,

01:33.020 --> 01:35.620
which is this orange line here.

01:35.620 --> 01:39.820
The Y coordinate value shows the vertical location of the sprite on the grid,

01:39.820 --> 01:42.320
and that's this blue line here.

01:42.320 --> 01:44.520
Please continue to video two.

01:44.520 --> 01:46.520
Thanks for watching!

01:51.020 --> 01:55.520
Thank you for watching!
